God

Written by Woody Allen
Directed by Joe Hilsee

The setting of Woody Allen’s God is an empty theatre in Ancient Athens. We watch as a playwright and actor struggle to come up with an ending for their entry into the prestigious Athenian Drama Competition which is taking place in a few days (or a few hours depending on which page we are on). The major obstacle in fi nishing there drama is that these ancient Greeks are all too aware that they are really characters in a play that is taking place in the Downtown Chico Park Plaza on a hot summer’s night in 2008. This they would fi nd perfectly acceptable if they had been written by Samuel Beckett or William Shakespeare unfortunately, these poor fools were written by Woody Allen, who is himself curious as to how all of this will fall out. Before the evening is over they just might convince the Chico audience that they are nothing more than a byproduct of some imaginative story told for the benefi t of some other crowd. So please, remember your lines and don’t bump into the furniture!
