Based on Oedipus Rex, the archetypical play by Sophocles, Oedipus Rocks! is a rock and roll retelling of the famous tale of man’s struggle to outwit his fate. Oedipus is the King of Thebes--a hero in the eyes of the citizens he governs. But the City of Thebes has fallen under a curse. Plague, famine and death threaten to erase the city from the face of the earth. The people look to Oedipus to solve their dilemma--it is discovered that The Gods have punished Thebes for leaving the murder of their previous ruler, King Liaus, unsolved. So Oedipus sets his mind on bringing the unknown killer to justice. This decision places him on a path of self-destruction, one of unparalleled dimensions. Sound like fun? It is!
